Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Software Engineer to join our client team in Sterling, VA. This role involves leading software development efforts, mentoring junior engineers, and working closely with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality automotive software solutions. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with a strong background in software development, particularly in the automotive industry.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Support and mentor new engineers through training, reviews, and collaborative efforts to ensure their professional growth.
  • Work directly with customers and suppliers to develop and manage designs, requirements, specifications, and other key project components.
  • Actively participate in Agile Scrum teams, including sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives, and sprint reviews.
  • Support the engineering team in new product development, ensuring that lessons learned are integrated into future projects.
  • Write C code to meet functional and technical specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Perform peer reviews on all project artifacts to maintain quality throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure code compliance with MISRA-C, CERTC, and company coding guidelines.
  • Create and maintain software architecture and detailed designs, contributing to the overall technical direction of projects.
  • Support Test Lab functional test requirements and collaborate with manufacturing on inline product testing methods, specifications, and equipment selection.
  • Investigate alternative suppliers of electronic content for future products, ensuring the best options are selected.
  • Evaluate, assess, and troubleshoot electronics content in core product base, resolving issues efficiently.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience, with a preference for automotive industry experience.
  • Experience in software project leadership is preferred, with the ability to launch and lead software development with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively with global teams and contribute to peer design reviews.

Technical skills & tools:

  • Proficiency with Lab Power Supply, Soldering Iron, Oscilloscope, Digital Multimeter, Spectrum Analyzer, Component Analyzer, ESD test gun, Sourcemeter, Electronic Load, Function Generator, Amplifier, Datalogger, Engineering EOL tester, Debugger/Programmer.
  • Expertise in MPLAB X, Visual C#, C/C++, Atmel/AVR Studio, DSP, Python, ARM.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong ability to root cause issues using methods like 8D, Kepnor-Tregoe, and Fishbone analysis.

Non-essential responsibilities:

  • Training: Attend job-required training, including ISO 26262 Functional Safety Management, EE department and SW Group development.
  • Purchasing and Budgeting: Support purchasing and budgeting for electronic parts and test equipment.
  • VA/VE Support: Contribute to Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) efforts.
