Financial Controller

We are currently seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join one of our esteemed clients based in Toronto, Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development, coordination, and monitoring of track protection projects, contracts, and Purchase Orders (POs).
  • Manage financial, contractual, and administrative aspects of the track protection portfolio.
  • Design and maintain spreadsheets, forms, and databases for data tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Identify and address financial issues that may impact the performance of the portfolio.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather and disseminate necessary information for ongoing responsibilities.
  • Act as a liaison with subject matter experts to ensure clarity and efficiency in information exchange.
  • Recommend policies and procedures to improve the recording and reporting of financial and contract-related information.
  • Establish department procedures consistent with company policy and best practices.
  • Provide recommendations on contract improvements and financial initiatives to Senior Project Financial Control Officers.
  • Offer insights and recommendations for enhancing policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Manage accounts receivable and payable processes, preparing financial reports as needed.
  • Handle monthly and year-end accruals related to track protection, ensuring proper project cost coding and distribution.
  • Monitor and report on track protection budgets, forecasts, and expenditures.
  • Ensure monthly project forecasts align with submitted contract and PO information.
  • Support the department’s operating budget development and quarterly financial reviews.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of financial and contract administration alternatives for the portfolio.
  • Provide guidance and advice to other employees on areas of expertise, without direct day-to-day supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
  • Extensive experience in financial administration, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Strong background in contract administration, negotiations, and developing terms and conditions.
  • Project management experience is considered an asset.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills for generating reports and making presentations to senior management.
  • Proficiency in financial management software (e.g., Ecosys, Oracle CM14/Unifier) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
